Sunday, March 15, 2009, Des Moines Creek Park

Our season-opening event started with a brief but substantial snowfall, followed by rain and--finally--a few sun breaks. 63 runners were undaunted by the weather and toed the line to take on a muddy loop course. Marathon Maniacs again made a strong showing in the 6-hour. Jonathan Bernard notched nine laps--the most of anyone--of the 4-mile loop in 5:44, and Linda Barton topped the women's field and was 3rd overall with eight laps in 5:43.

Thanks to the volunteers and staff: Mike, Gayle, Andrea, and Drew. Thanks also to Seattle Running Company for their support. SRC provided the shirts that some runners won by random drawing. The next Northwest Trail Runs event will be on Saturday, April 11 at Squak Mtn. State Park and will feature hilly 10k and Half Marathon courses.
