Come enjoy fall running on this flat and fast 5k out and back course on East Lake Sammamish trail. 10k runners will run the course twice.

This is a great course for both runners and walkers.

Your entry helps support the Kokanee Salmon recovery work of the Three Rivers Chapter of Trout Unlimited. The Kokanee are unique to Lake Sammamish and are in danger of becoming extinct. Some of Trout Unlimited’s work includes: protecting the Kokanee’s access to spawning areas, educating fishermen to properly identify Kokanee, educating residents about environmentally-friendly lawn care, and more.

The Three Rivers Chapter was recently awarded the King County Green Globe Award for their work on recovering the Lake Samammish Kokanee!

Course Description

To avoid the ongoing major construction at Sunset Beach in the park, the course is a 5k out-and-back along the smoothly-paved East Lake Sammamish Trail. Participants in the 5k will do this out-and-back once, and 10k participants will do it twice.

The event starts and ends at Lake Sammamish State Park Boat Launch parking lot (4455 E Lake Sammamish Pkwy SE, Issaquah, WA 98029), not the main park.

Aid Station
There will be one aid station at the turn-around point, about 1.6 miles into the course. There will be an additional aid station near the start/finish for the 10k runners, making for three aid stations on the 10k course.

Aid stations offer water, electrolyte drink, and some carbohydrate-rich or salty foods.

Youth Discount

YOUTH DISCOUNT
Youth runners (under 20 years old) get a $10 discount on online pre-registration prices. You don’t need to enter a code; the discount is applied automatically based upon your date of birth. Northwest Trail Runs is a founding member of USA Track & Field and American Trail Running Association’s Youth Trail Initiative.

The $10 youth discount also applies to event-day registration at the park.

Directions & Parking

The event starts and ends at Lake Sammamish State Park Boat Launch parking lot (4455 E Lake Sammamish Pkwy SE, Issaquah, WA 98029), not the main park.

Note that parking at this park requires a Discover Pass. If you purchase a Discover Pass online, you can print out a temporary pass before your pass arrives in the mail. There are also many vendors that sell passes in-person. See this website for details.

Safety, Etiquette, & Dogs

SAFETY
The trails will be open to other users during the event, including pedestrians with pets, and cyclists. Please share the trail courteously with other users and other participants in this event. Look for vehicles at uncontrolled road or driveway crossings, and stop for cars when necessary where the course crosses the signaled crosswalk of a parking lot entrance.

PASSING ETIQUETTE
When passing on narrow parts of the course, please announce your intention in advance. And please let other participants pass you if they want to get by. It is a passing runner’s job to tell the person in front that they wish to pass.

HEADPHONES
If you’d like to listen to music while you’re on the course, please use headphones or earbuds, so that runners around you can’t hear it. Others may prefer a quieter event experience or may have different musical tastes. Runners playing music in the open air may be asked to choose between turning off the music or leaving the event.

Also, keep the volume low enough that you can hear someone talking to you in a normal voice, for example, another runner saying they would like to pass on your left.

DOGS
This event is USATF sanctioned, and under USATF policies dogs are not allowed to accompany runners on the course.

SAFETY
Participants are responsible for their own safety while participating, and the organizers are neither qualified nor equipped to render medical care in the event of a serious injury. In case of an emergency, call 9-1-1. You are encouraged to bring a cell phone with you as a safety precaution, if you wish.

COVID-19 & RESPIRATORY VIRUS SAFETY
Outdoors settings are among the safest, due to the open air dissipating virus particles to greatly reduce the risk of transmission. However, fall and winter are virus season, so we encourage you to take simple precautions:

Please stay home if you are sick (with any contagious respiratory virus); we’ll happily give you a credit toward another race or a full refund
Get your flu and COVID-19 shots when possible
Mask wearing is generally not required at our events, but you are welcome to wear a mask if you feel it is best for your own health
At times when viruses are going around, keep a six foot distance from others when it is practical, or at least avoid being in close proximity for a long time in still air
Limit touching of shared surfaces and items, and clean your hands before and after
