Did you know that the Northwest Trail Runs team also produces navigation races over at Northwest Nav Races?

The “Checkpoint Run” format is a smashup of a trail run and a point-to-point navigation race, with a strategic twist, and also a tiny bit of DNA from the infamous Barkley Marathons. Come try it out at Soaring Eagle Regional Park! Try to tackle it solo, or bring some friends and work together! You can choose between a 6-hour or a 3-hour time limit.

The park features beautiful forest that is open and runnable in places, flat to gently-rolling terrain punctuated by steep-sided ravines, and a web of sweet winding singletrack trails flanking a wider promenade spanning the park! Our checkpoints are marked on an extremely detailed topographic map of the park and we’ll be using orange and white flags for you to visit.

Are you new to nav racing? That’s okay! We’ll offer an Introduction to Navigation session before the race. The session will include an introduction to the map, reading contours, basic navigation, and how to use the compass to orient the map.
